Contentment

"I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need." (Philippians 4:11-12).

Not sure how many of us can say with certainty what Paul said here - being able to be content in any situation. Lately I have been reminded the importance of focusing on God in all circumstances. How? The answer is the next verse, which is one of my favorite verses in the Bible -"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Phil 4:13)

My life does not work well when I try to live it in my own strength. It does work well when I invite God to live His life in me by His strength. Every day I need to adopt this attitude: "I don't know all that this day holds, but I know God has designed my life so that I need Him today. I know that I need to be walking close to Him, depending on Him in every circumstance."

Do you think it's better to want what you have or to have what you want?

I think it is better to be grateful for what you have. It may not always be what you want, but God gives everything you need and even then some! Walking with Him will only be adding more blessings on to your life.

Hi Corry, I agree with you there. Walking with God and abiding in Jesus will certainly add more blessings on to our lives.

Godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. 1 Timothy 6:6-8 NASB

I appreciate your commentary, agree with the Apostle Paul, and hope that today you and I will both be content, in Melbourne and Sydney and wherever else our great God leads us.
