Connections & Food

I love making connections. The world has literally been transformed because of internet connection. We all have this amazing way to be in global connection instantaneously.

Many of us have a number of intimate relationships and friendships. We might have intimate connections with God, our spouse, parents, kids, siblings, friends, and business partners etc. It's a blessing when they have such intimate connections.

However, if we don’t have intimacy in our lives, one of the easiest ways to get it is through food. Let’s face it – the act of eating can be a very intimate experience. We love it, we desire it, taste it, we receive pleasure from it.

I meet a lot of people who have challenges with overeating, stress eating, emotional eating, and other unwanted eating habits – and for some of them, at their core, is a desire for intimacy that’s been rerouted into the easiest available symbolic substitute – food.

I think that far too many of us make the mistake of getting stuck in the quick-fix solution. Meaning, if I can have the depth and intimacy I want, then I might as well eat and forget about the rest.

Perhaps one of the first steps to truly attracting love into our life is to first love yourself by doing an honest inventory of who we are and what we truly want at the deepest level of our being.

Jump Out Of Bed

If you want to see how life is meant to be lived, just take a few moments and watch children play.  Their first instincts are to explore, create, experience and have fun! But as we grow up, life gets busy and serious. Becoming an adult is a process and it tends to result in people being formed and pressed into molds.  We learn as we grow older that being different isn’t always the best thing.
Many of us even learn to modify our behavior to make sure we don’t stick out of the crowd. Conformity suppresses our individuality; the essence that makes each of us unique.  And once our spirit is suppressed it may take years, if ever, to excavate.
In order to reawaken that child-like, adventure-seeking, explorer within, we must introduce new and exciting things to our lives to reawaken our authentic self and make us feel alive once again! My motto is: if you can change your thinking, you can change your life!  Life is about experiences. Let's break free and jump out of bed everyday to enjoy it.

Signs You're Succeeding

Recently I chatted with a friend who's a success coach. We discussed ways you can tell you are succeeding at life, even if it doesnt feel like it. Truth be told, I know there are times when I feel as though I am working so very hard towards some goals but seeing no results. My friend told me that we may not recognise our progress becasue it takes small and consistent steps to reach success. Most of us are doing much better than we give ourselves credit for. If we look back and see the progress we've made from the beginning, we would see how far we've come.

The following points are some of the signs that you're succeeding. The last one is my favourite. xo

  • You've increased your standards.
  • You relationships have improved.
  • You let go of things that don't make you feel good.
  • You've learned that setbacks and failrue are part of self-development.
  • You've accepted what you can't change, but change what you can't accept.
  • You can live a rich life even though you may not have as much money.
What are some of the other signs you know of that show you're succeeding? Please comment below.

High Tech & High Touch

For many years now, one of my goals is to be more effective in my communication and connection with people around me. And I embarked on the journey of embracing internet and social media technology to do that. Within a few years, I have “technologized” myself into a technology and internet communication pattern. At times admittedly even more so than face-to-face communication.

Studies show that only 7% of communication is based on the written or verbal words. And 93% is based on nonverbal body language. This presents a paradox! With all the powerful social media and digital technology available to us, we are more connected, but potentially more disconnected than ever before. I have found that as much as I have been really enjoying keeping in touch with my friends online, I still long for the personal touch. I also say I love connecting with people on 'facebook, but nothing beats FACE TO FACE."

Technology is an awesome tool to help us stay in touch with people, but it shouldn’t take the place of face-to-face communication when it is possible.  Take some time to think about who you can catch up with in person this week, and who you can call today. :) xxx
