Prayer and Mission

Does prayer really make a difference in mission? Is a mission trip that centers on prayer and education of the work really worth the time, money and effort? Is prayer truly a major part of church planting? Can you really be a part of God’s plan to redeem the unreached people of the world if all you do is pray for them?

I'd be interested in knowing what your answers to these questions are.

Or to put it another way, if an elderly house-bound lady can do nothing but sit at home, read missionary letters and pray, is she useless to the Kingdom?

Moreover, if some of Paul's letters, we see the vital role that some of these churches played in supporting him in prayer. Paul thought that prayer is a major part of church planting:

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. (Colossians 4:2-4)

Interestingly enough, the whole monastic system is based on the idea that it is worthwhile to devote to devote the greater part of your time to prayer.

I am completely convinced that you cannot plant a church without prayer. Can't be done. The enemy guns for you so hard... It's only in being in a constant state of prayer that things happen.
