What is Faith?

Faith Posted by Picasa

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)
"Faith is something you decide to do, not something you feel like doing." (Neil Anderson)

It's so true that faith is a journey not always known. I believe that faith takes risks. Working in a faith mission means that I don't get a standard wage, my 'income' has to rely on others' support. It has taught me so much about partnership and interdependence, but I must admit that I am a person who doesn't have enough faith.

The value of faith rests completely in the person given our trust - God. Trusting in God who sees where we cannot. The Scriptures teach us that God will direct our paths as we yield to His leading. Still, it is important that when God leads, we have faith and follow. I pray that I can be sure of what I hope for and certain of what I don't see.

"Faith the size of a mustard seed..." Great post, Kitty. I always think of faith as being the willingness to live by what you believe, so that, even though all around you seems to contradict and say nay, yet still you hold to what you believe and act according to its direction.

Always wonderful to meet another Christian. God bless you in all He leads you into! :)

Thanks Clive for your encouragement. Pray that we all have faith as the size of a mustard seed.

Great thoughts Kitty! My middle name is Faith...literally, Rebecca Faith. I have always thought that it was something I needed to live up to. And I try to do just that, committing my way to God every day. Sometimes my Faith is strong, sometimes it's weak, but thank God He never changes!

what a fantastic middle name you have Becky! Isn't it amazing that even though we change all the time, God never changes! Hallelujah!

And Becky, I really enjoy reading your faith expedition too :-)

I've reading a book about Hebrews by Ray Stedman lately and he descibes faith as "trusting in the ability of a second Person (Jesus) to work through us".

I think that's a great definition of faith Susan. I wonder why Ray Stedman talks specifically only about Jesus instead of the Father or the Holy Spirit, or the Triune God Himself.
